Cropping system diversity and tillage intensity affects wheat productivity in Texas

چکیده

Abstract Wheat ( Triticum aestivum L.) production in Texas depends heavily on conventional tillage (CT) and a long summer fallow period, which contributes to soil degradation. This study compared the impact of reducing intensity (CT, no‐tillage, strip‐tillage) combined with cropping CT–summer wheat establishment, grain production, herbage mass from 2016 2020 three ecoregions (Coastal Plains, Southern High Blackland Prairie). Tillage resulted variable impacts stand yield, across years locations. At Beeville, Coastal yields were not impacted by tillage. Sorghum bicolor [L.] Moench) less yield 2020. In 1 yr at Lubbock was greater CT than reduced lower cover crop mixture or cowpea Vigna unguiculata Walp.) 2017, but Thrall, Prairie, establishment 2016, whereas 2017 2018, sorghum sesame Sesamum indicum increased 2019 Summer systems rarely had negative all ecoregions.

The effect of tillage, crop establishment and weed management was studied on theperformance of wheat grown after soybean at New Delhi, India during 2010-11 to 2011-12.Sixteen treatment combinations involved 2 tillage, viz. conventional tillage (CT) and zero tillage(ZT), two crop establishment practices, viz. raised-bed and flat-bed and four weed management, viz. isoproturon + hand weeding, mesos...

Greenhouse Gas Flux and Crop Productivity after 10 Years of Reduced and No Tillage in a Wheat-Maize Cropping System

Appropriate tillage plays an important role in mitigating the emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG) in regions with higher crop yields, but the emission situations of some reduced tillage systems such as subsoiling, harrow tillage and rotary tillage are not comprehensively studied. The objective of this study was to evaluate the emission characteristics of GHG (CH4 and N2O) under four reduced til...

This study was conducted to know cropping cycles required to improve OM status in soil and to investigate the effects of medium-term tillage practices on soil properties and crop yields in Grey Terrace soil of Bangladesh under wheat-mungbean-T. aman cropping system. Four different tillage practices, namely, zero tillage (ZT), minimum tillage (MT), conventional tillage (CT), and deep tillage (DT...

Effect of tillage and residue management on productivity of soybean and physico-chemical properties of soil in soybean–wheat cropping system

A microplot experiment was conducted in soybean–wheat cropping system at New Delhi during 2010-11 and 2011-12 to study the effect of continuous or cyclic tillage, viz., conventional tillage (CT) and zero-tillage (ZT) and residue management of either soybean (SR) and/or wheat (WR) on yield performance and soil physico-chemical properties. The experiment was laid out in randomized block desi...

Increasing Cropping System Diversity Balances Productivity, Profitability and Environmental Health

Balancing productivity, profitability, and environmental health is a key challenge for agricultural sustainability. Most crop production systems in the United States are characterized by low species and management diversity, high use of fossil energy and agrichemicals, and large negative impacts on the environment. We hypothesized that cropping system diversification would promote ecosystem ser...
